Beginner’s Facts on Green House Gardening

If you’re a newcomer to Greenhouse Horticulture, you may be wondering how to start. There’s a multitude of information available about Greenhouse Gardening, and it may be a little bit overwhelming to find trustworthy sources of information. Well, we realize your pain and have come up with a beginner’s guide to greenhouse gardening full of only the crucial info you really need to get started.

Beginner’s Guide to Greenhouse Gardening

1. Collect your materials. There are several vital supplies that you’ll need to start in your new greenhouse gardening hobby. To begin, you’ll want to buy a greenhouse, an outdoor hose, several plants, planting medium and planting pots. A set of two gardening work gloves, a hand trowel, and a cooling fan could also be useful in the greenhouse, but aren’t essential. You can also opt to gather fertilizers (compost is ideal), insecticides, horticulture books, and gravel to help with any kind of drainage difficulties you may experience in the greenhouse.

2. Decide what to grow. After you have gathered all greenhouse supplies, you’ll need to decide on what you want to grow. Will you decide on fruit and vegetables, fruit trees and bushes, flowering plants, pretty plants, or exotics? The option is practically limitless and is entirely a matter of individual choice. Easy to grow vegetation like tomatoes, lettuce, and raspberries are a wonderful choice for newcomers. Flowers like begonias, petunias, bush roses, and daylilies are also a good solution for the starting green house gardener.

3. Prepare to plant. Just before you start to plant your seeds or seedlings, you need to ensure your pots, equipment, and soil are sterilized enough. You can easily do this by combining diluted bleach water, squirting it onto virtually all tools and pots, rinsing it with water and after that air drying it. Potting soil purchased from a gardening supply store has already been sanitized, and should be put in the original bags as well as closed after each use. If you want to make your own personal potting soil, make sure you follow directions carefully when baking your soil to make certain bacteria and pests are eliminated before use.

4. Start planting! Using your clean tools, fill a pot half way with potting soil. Get rid of your seedling from your plastic or peat pot gently by squeezing the edges all around before pulling the flower from the container. Delicately remove excessive dirt from the root ball and put the seedling upright in the new pot. With one hand holding the plant in place, softly place potting soil around the plant until the roots are hidden and the plant is stabilized enough to stand up-right without your support. As soon as you water it carefully, move the pot to the green house.

5. You’ll need to be sure your green house panels are clear enough to let sunlight in, and that the warmth in the greenhouse is regulated. Follow the planting ideas supplied with your seeds or seedlings in order to develop a set temperature (exotic plants do best between 60 and 85 degrees, most vegetables and fruits like temps between 45 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit) and watering timetable for your plants. It is wise to water early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun is not at its most potent. Don’t overwater your plants! If the soil is moistened to touch, leave them alone. If you’d like, you can add fertilizer to your plants and flowers or use fresh compost just about every six to eight weeks.

To help make the most of your green house adventure, it’s wise to gather with other gardeners to exchange tips and tricks. You may also keep a gardening log full of snapshots of your progress to help you learn from your error and successes in the green house. Beginning greenhouse gardening is a beneficial hobby, so make sure you enjoy your adventure to the fullest and make your green house your own with the addition of your own personal touches and preferences along the way.
